DIY Teardown: Kineon Move+ Pro - Battery Replacement

So on my ocean Thrift Quest I came across this gizmo and snapped it for $29.99 CAD. Retails for around $600 CAD give or take.

Only two of the modules worked. The defect one showed charging but did not turn on.

So my DIY Teardown begins.

It's not pretty but I used some pliers one to hold the module and the other to pry the grey top off. Now you can see the guts a bit.
I hope it's just a good ole battery replacement so the specs show: 3.7v 650mAH

The OG battery seemed a lil corroded
So I ordered the same spec battery from Aliexpress which took like a month to get and costed around $15 CAD. Snipped the wires to connect...positive first (red). The battery was a lil snug. I had to remove some of the padding and shift the vibrator unit inside and tuck the wires in the inner spaces as possible.

Ideally you want to charge first to turn on but I couldn't wait and lo and behold it turns on like new.

Had to really push the guts back in with the new battery because it was so snug but it worked out. Put some electrical tape around but I guess you can use glue too.

So with that I hope you enjoyed my endeavor into getting this unit back online. For over $600 and out of warranty and having a module go out that would be a bummer.

To keep some tech alive longer is gonna help your wallet but also help the planet.

360fly HD Camera

UPDATE: Ended up selling it on eBay
Came across this gizmo after my occasional thrift run.

For under $20 CAD it was an interesting find for me. I've never had a 360 cam before.

Much of the 360fly company has dissolved but remnants still remain.

Product page here https://www.360fly.com/360fly-hd.html

The win/mac software is around in archived sites floating around.

One site seems to have it but much of the functionality is broken/unusable https://360fly-director.software.informer.com/

I did connect it to an android device with limited functions. The APK is floating around. One source is from APKPure.

The footage comes out as fisheye. Cool effect for some edits but not much to work with for other software like Insta360 and etc. Before when the OG apps were working you could edit and inject the 360 metadata but now you need to do it manually for each file if you plan to edit. I used Spatial Media Metadata Injector for windows which you can find at GitHub.

I'm not some sort of extreme sport/adventurer so much use for this is novelty at this stage. I will use it for my biking runs, kind of an insurance policy if any footage is needed. Post 2000 and pre 2020 tech for me seems to be my jam because there's some interesting innovation and maybe less manufacturing constraints at the time.

Shelling it out

Just like the vastness of the oceans or countless grains of sands, life brings so many things. I may come across a shell/things that may seem interesting or useful. I may share my experience after using it. I'll use the shell/thing for a bit then move on to the next thing/trade/sell it. If we share the same interest: - If you're a bit frugal or try not to buy retail - Want to reduce waste or like to Recycle, Reduce & Reuse - Like tech stuff, some vintage stuff and possible wacky/interesting stuff, cool inventions. Then this blog space may be your cup of tea.
